Additional details and features of TUSD

LAUNCH Preschool serves students that qualify for special education services within the boundaries of Torrance Unified School District without exception. The District requires proof of residency prior to assessment and enrollment. Every school district provides services to students ages three to five years old with disabilities. Our fee-based program for typically developing peers is open to students that reside outside of the TUSD boundaries.

If you are a resident of TUSD, you will first need to prove you are a resident of Torrance. Please see the Enrollment Info on the Home Page. Once residency is established, the information will be provided to the lead psychologist who will contact you to obtain further information. If you are not a resident, contact the special education office within your school district or your home elementary school.

Your counselor at HRC will set up a transition meeting with a representative from the school district. The school district cannot assess students until they are at least 2 years, 10 months old. Students can start preschool as early as their 3rd birthday.

All meals, foods and beverages are prepared and served by qualified child nutrition professionals. We provide students with access to a variety of affordable and appealing foods that meet the health and nutrition needs of students.
More Time on Learning. When students have eaten, they are better able to concentrate and behave in the classroom. This allows teachers to spend more time on teaching and less time on discipline.
For the 2019-2020 school year, the following Elementary and Middle schools will have breakfast: Adams, Arlington, Carr, Edison, Fern, Lincoln, Torrance Elementary, Victor, Wood Yukon, Hull, and Magruder.

Online Prepayment: You need to take advantage of the options to prepay your student’s meal accounts. Prepaid meal accounts help the lunch lines go faster and give students more time to eat, relax, and play. It also gives you the peace of mind of not having to worry about looking for lunch money every day or worry that it might get lost, stolen or used for other things other than lunch. Paying by Check: You can also make check payments to TUSD Nutrition Services. You need to make check payable to: TUSD Nutrition Services. Checks can be mailed to: Nutrition Services Dept. 2335 Plaza Del Amo, Torrance, CA 90501 or dropped off directly to the school site or Nutrition Service office located at 2335 Plaza Del Amo, Torrance, CA 90501.

Paying by Cash: You can give cash directly to the school site cafeteria staff or Nutrition Service office.
Note: they cannot take payments over the phone with credit cards.
Meal Charge Policy:
All students who are qualified for free or reduced price meals:
TUSD will be provided meals and charged the appropriate rate (reduced priced students are charged $.25 for breakfast and $.40 for lunch) regardless of any balance owed.
Students who are not qualified for free or reduced-price meals will be charged full price and allowed the following:

Elementary students are allowed to charge meals to their account with no limit.

Middle school students are allowed to charge up to $5.

High school students are not allowed to charge any items if there is money owed.

Food will not be provided to students who do not have funds to pay at Middle and High School levels.

Households are responsible for all meal charges accrued throughout the school year. Balance notifications (phone, text, email) will be sent multiple times per week to keep households informed of balances owed. Account deposits, payments, and monitoring may be done online at tusd.org/nutrition-services, at the school site, or in the Nutrition Services Office. If a payment plan is needed, please contact the Nutrition Services Office to make the necessary arrangements.

Fresh Express Catering is an easy choice for school department meetings, parties and gatherings of any type. They have a variety of fresh and delicious choices to complete any breakfast or lunch meeting. Their menu includes hot and cold meals, buffets, trays and a la carte items.
TUSD offers both pick-up and delivery services to meet your catering needs. Safe handling procedures will ensure your order is delivered at the right temperature and the right time.
